This is a little 'out of the box' for us...but

Hi,
Let's give it a try! I love the idea of the Faith Promise, but admit that I have no idea on what the next big idea will be! I do hope, that it involves more than KSUCC, just writing a check (just a personal preference).

I'd love to hear about projects that KSUCC have done in the past. I attended the dinner, welcoming Ken back for a visit. There I got a glimpse of some great things...I'd love to learn more about them.

For folks that are not comfortable with this venue, can we print the blogs out and post them?

Take Care,
Eileen

Hi,
I don't have much insight either as to what we have done in th epast.. I just know of a few things. we should perhaps build off of ideas we have had that mayb were not 'brave' enough to realize. what does everyone else think?
thanks.

I’m in the same camp as Eileen in that I’d like whatever project we settle on to involve not just fund raising but also an element of hands-on, sweat equity effort.

Of the examples that Carlos raised during his Special Presentation on Sunday (great job Carlos!) the one that most resonated with me was the sponsorship/rebuilding of a church in New Orleans.

I like the idea of taking what we have to offer as a community – resources, ingenuity, time, energy, etc. – and combining it with the vision of another community; a community that on it’s own may not have the resources necessary to realize that vision.

My thought is that we may not need to go all the way to New Orleans to find such a community, and we may ultimately discern that keeping our project more localized will give those in our church who can’t travel more of an opportunity to be involved (beyond writing a check) and allow us all to experience the concrete results of our efforts.

Just like our predecessors who bought those cinder blocks one block at a time, I think choosing a project that everyone in our church, young and old, can see, touch, and feel will garner the most energetic, and the most sustainable, support.

Any thoughts on this?

I've heard ideas from several people who haven't posted. One suggested that we support the Silver Lake capital campaign to turn the UCC camp into a real conference center. Someone else suggested that we invest in expanding the Thrift Shop. I've also heard some interest in addressing issues of domestic violence.

I am eager to hear what others have to say.
